Why Short-Cycle Church Planting?
When we found Avant, we were intrigued by three things; their vision to reach areas with less than a 2% evangelical presence, 120 years of missions work (formerly known as Gospel Missionary Union), and the Short-Cycle Church Planting philosophy. We believe in their organization and trust their expertise to lead and guide us in this journey. (If you feel the call to "Go", please check out Avant's website: avantministries.org)
Short-Cycle Church Planting (SCCP) was inspired by globalization and political volatility that has altered the "usual" way of doing missions. Operating under the principle that we have less time than there has been before and more people to reach than ever before - the aim of Short-Cycle is to develop mature, reproducing churches led by nationals in as short of time as possible.
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2, talks of a season and time for every purpose under heaven - a time to be rooted and a time to be up-rooted. We have enjoyed an extensive time here in America, but now is our time to be up-rooted and taken to Italy to serve the Italian people who have been without the message of the Gospel. We want them to hear the Good News - there is a Savior who wants to give them hope and a future, who has made a way for them to know God and have eternity with Him. We leave America in good hands, many profess the message of Jesus Christ here, but in Italy it is hard to find a believer with an intimate relationship with Jesus or an evangelical church. We hope to serve the Lord by introducing others to our Lord and Savior, teaching, mentoring and helping them as they grow and develop the skills needed to lead a church for their Italian brothers and sisters in Christ.

Rampant prostitution and sex trafficking. It is estimated this industry serves 9-10 million clients in Italy. Many women and children are misled and brought from other countries in hopes of jobs and a new life.

Unemployment and instability in the Eurozone leaves many with fear and depression.
43% unemployment among those under 25. Without anything to do and hopelessness setting-in, many turn to doctors and prescriptions to ease their pain.
60,000+ new illegal immigrants, putting further strain on the ailing economy.
"Without vision, My people perish!"
January 2014 we found ourselves asking God for more vision for our family. We loved our Church home, we were thriving in many ministry opportunities, but we had always known we were called to the mission field. Every attempt, every push and every door closed year after year. We had allowed ourselves to become complacent. We did not want to live a mediocre life, we did not want work to live, and we did not want another year to go by without a vision. Through prayer and fasting in January, we felt led to look to "the Nations." We pursued many mission agencies to see where we could get involved. By May we were in contact with Avant Ministries and started the process of admission to their Candidate Orientation Program, just two months away. After the scurry of wrapping up Chad's work, getting medical forms signed, taking assessments and talking with people at Avant, we settled in for two weeks in Kansas City learning more, and I think we can say, the rest is history...
